Switching to a new tube supplier — or sourcing steel tube for the first time — carries a cost that never appears on the quotation: the cost of being wrong. A wrong specification, a coating that does not match your environment, or a surface that will not take your powder coating is painful to discover on a 20-ton container. On a 1-ton trial lot, the same discovery is a cheap lesson.

That is the entire logic behind a small minimum order quantity.

Why many mills decline small orders

Tube production runs on strip coils and tooling set-ups. For an established line running large repeating orders, a 1-ton job means a changeover that costs more to schedule than the order earns — which is why small quantities are often refused or quoted at unattractive prices.

Yuanheng’s galvanized tube line is set up with small-lot flexibility as a feature, not an exception: tube is rolled to customer specification from 1-ton lots, with standard walls ready in about 1 week and a confirmed schedule provided with the quotation.

What a 1-ton trial actually buys you

For a common specification, one tonne translates into a meaningful sampling of real production — enough metres to:

  • Verify dimensions — outside diameter or section size, wall thickness and length against your drawing.
  • Check the coating — coating class (Z40/Z60/Z80) and surface condition, against the criteria agreed before order confirmation.
  • Run it through your process — cutting, punching, welding, powder coating: the tests no certificate can replace.
  • Show your customer — if you fabricate for others, a physical sample from the trial lot closes the loop.

The trial-order workflow

  1. Enquiry — send profile, sizes, wall thickness, coating grade, length, quantity and destination port.
  2. Feasibility and quotation — we confirm with the factory what we can produce, then quote with a production and delivery schedule in writing.
  3. 1-ton trial — produced to the agreed specification, packed in export bundles.
  4. Your evaluation — inspect, test, run through your production.
  5. Scale-up — re-orders at production quantities with the specification already locked.

What to check when the trial arrives

  • Outside diameter or section dimensions and wall thickness at several points
  • Surface condition: bare spots, marks, weld-seam appearance
  • Coating class against the agreed criteria
  • Length accuracy and end condition
  • Packing: bundling, end protection and labelling

Agree the inspection criteria before the order — it makes the arrival check a formality instead of a dispute.

FAQ

Can I mix profiles or sizes within 1 ton? Mixed-specification trial orders can be requested — send the split and we confirm feasibility with the factory before quoting.

What is the lead time for a trial order? Standard walls are ready in about 1 week; the confirmed schedule is provided with the quotation, and transit time is quoted separately.

Do re-orders get better pricing? Production quantities change the economics — pricing for scaled-up orders is quoted on the confirmed specification and volume.
